The Bethel Centre operates independent from the processes of the UCA and provides counselling, consultancy and support to people who have been affected by trauma, abuse or misuse of power by individuals and or processes within the Church.The Centre offers individual counselling support, resources and information to groups and, consultation and training to those with leadership responsibilities
The role
Bethel Pastoral Centre seeks an Educator and Counsellor to continue to develop the work of the Bethel Centre, under the management of the Co-ordinator and the guidance of the Centre Council. This position works with the Co-ordinator providing counselling and consultancy services to individuals and groups in the Uniting Church Community, to attend to trauma. This role includes a requirement to facilitate education sessions, to respond where there is conflict, or in the aftermath of experiences of abuse/misuse of power.
About you
- Experience in designing, facilitating and delivering education workshops
- Proven experience in counselling, with the ability to work with complex mental health issues.
- Counselling qualifications and eligibility for membership of a professional counselling association. Experience in working with trauma will be essential.
- Understanding of how issues of abuse/misuse of power may be responded to and prevented in a Christian faith community. The ability to work with both Ministers and congregation members is important.
- Skills, experience and interest in understanding and attending to trauma are essential and understanding processes with respect to conflict resolution will also be of benefit.
- An ability to work in a very small team.
- Basic competence in use of IT programs including Microsoft Office
The role requires some flexibility in hours and an ability to travel as required.
